I had a week off of my job. The point was to have a recharging stay-cation. I started a new job in January, and have been running hard at it since then. It was time for a break. I used recording to create some structure for the week, and also to distract me from wasting the time eating or drinking too much, or watching too much TV. I created a schedule with some recording time set aside every day, and targets.
It worked out pretty well. There are two new songs up on the site: "The Price" and "Absolute Basic".
"The Price" uses a drum loop from a recording session with my friend Krister Friday. It is full of samples from "Kill Bill Volume 1". It has vocal clips from Lucy Liu, Uma Thurman and Julie Dreyfus. It has a sweet little 1.5 second riff from Al Hirt's Green Hornet theme-song. I recently picked up a new American Standard jaguar Bass deeply discounted, trying to beef up my bass sounds... you can hear a lot of that here.
The other song, "Absolute Basic" samples from "Inception", with clips featuring Ellen Paige and Tom Hardy. The Jaguar Bass continues, and I use a Strat, and the TiTan for the guitars. The mix feels a bit odd to me. I'll leave it up, but intend to tweak it a bit, and repost it with its own blog post.
The week was relaxing, and felt like I accomplished something... what, I am unsure... but I did something.
